EUGENE, Ore. - While the track and field spotlight shines on Tokyo over the next few weeks, it has been a busy time for several Oregon Track Club Elite athletes.
Chanelle Price, who set a personal best of 1:58.73 in the 800m with a fifth-place finish at the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field, recently completed a whirlwind tour in Europe.
Over the span of nine days, she ran in two 800m races in France and also paced the 1,500m in Monaco and the mile in Gateshead, England. Price won the 800m (1:59.55) in Sotteville-les-Rouen and finished seventh in Tomblaine. She is currently ranked No. 7 in the U.S. in the 800m this season.
Sabrina Southerland competed in two meets in California in July, setting personal bests in both races. She was third in the 800m with a PR of 1:58.77 in Sacramento, and clocked a lifetime best of 4:10.55 in the 1,500m in Mission Viejo.
Southerland, the former NCAA Indoor 800m champion at Oregon, is ranked No. 8 in the U.S. in the 800m.
Vince Ciattei dropped down to the 800m and set a PR of 1:46.82 in Mission Viejo, while Hassan Mead lined up in the 1,500m and hit the tape in 3:42.76 at the same meet.
Ciattei set his 1,500m PR of 3:34.57 in May, and is ranked No. 5 in the U.S. at that distance.
